About Richard Absalom

The Specifics.

I have been working in independent practice since 2006, and draw on experience from working in the public, private and charity sectors. I  have worked as a counselling lecturer, and have also been a trustee for a large mental health charity. Prior to qualifying as a therapist, I worked for many years in the NHS as a Risk Manager, with responsibility for reducing workplace stress, and introducing initiatives to prevent violence towards staff.

The Approach

By using a range of therapeutic approaches, the approach is tailored to your needs. (Psychodynamic, Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural and Adlerian Therapy)The aim is to help you gain insight, and heighten self awareness. As well as problem solving, the approach is educational, preventative and growth-promoting.

More than any technique or theory, helping you become curious about yourself, and your thought patterns, with a sense of neutrality, is the key to success.  I am encouraging, and sensitive, to your experience of the therapy relationship, and will work at your pace.

The First Session

The first session, is an opportunity for you to discuss your concerns, and explore whether the experience and approach I offer, suits you, and the issues you want to work on. We will discuss any questions or concerns you have about starting therapy, and what you may want to achieve.

If we decide that we are to work together, we will arrange a regular time, and day to meet.
