What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy can help change the way you think and behave. It's a deep level of relaxation, a feeling similar to drifting off to sleep or day dreaming.

During Hypnotherapy you will be in an altered state of awareness that will allow you to access your subconscious, as your conscious mind relaxes and takes a step back. Your subconscious mind will accept the suggestions I give you without your conscious mind being critical and trying to evaluate everything because the suggestions are always positive and for your own benefit.

Hypnotherapy is a completely safe and natural therapy

While in an altered state of awareness you will be very relaxed and still be able to hear everything and do everything you normally do. Normal physical abilities are not impaired at all. You remain in control.

It is very similar to being engrossed in a television programme whilst overhearing a conversation in the background. Basically everything else just fades into the distance. Similar to a feeling of day dreaming.

You will not be asleep or unconscious

Suggestion therapy is very powerful, positive suggestions and visualisations are used to help  provide more beneficial responses to situations and stimuli.

Hypnotherapy is a teaching process where we utilise the capabilities and potential of the subconscious mind to make the changes we want to make.

I cannot make you do anything that you do not want to do or would find immoral. Your subconscious is there to protect you. You stay in control at all times and you can come out of hypnosis by opening your eyes .

You will have been in a hypnotic state many times before but may not have realised. For instance, when driving a car and you suddenly realise you have ‘drifted’ off, and cannot remember the last few miles. Although you drove along normally, stopping at red lights etc. when something unfamiliar happens in front of you, like a dog running out, or a traffic jam ahead, your mind suddenly comes back to full consciousness to protect you. This is an example of being in a spontaneous hypnotic state.

If not a driver, maybe when reading a book, you may suddenly of realised you do not know what has happened in the last few pages, it feels as though you have been daydreaming.

You will remember everything that happens during hypnosis unless you choose to forget it, such as if you remember a traumatic event from your past and you are not ready to talk about it or deal with it, you can choose to forget about it until you feel ready to confront it again.

You will be conscious and able to move the entire time you are hypnotised, if you feel uncomfortable in the chair you will be able to change positions. You will be able to speak normally but may feel that this is just too much effort, or you are so relaxed that you can’t be bothered.
